Dozer

I just wanted to say thanks to all the lovely peeps who've read my blog post, and followed the link to my non-permaculture guild blog (www.onecentury.blogspot.com.) Some of you scrolled down a ways and veiwed the horrific photographic documentation of my poor Dozer-dog when he was in the midst of some sort of mystery allergic reaction. Most were touchingly concerned. So I've posted another picture of the handsome Doze, so you all can see his normal appearance, rather then the gruesome swelling… Continue

Two Firsts

I had two exciting firsts today. One was my first trip to the Downtown Phoenix Market, a local foods and craft extravaganza held every Saturday and Wednesday. The other was my first experience with the Phoenix Permaculture Guild, a sustainability book club meeting, held at the same facility as the Downtown Phoenix Market. I just love getting two birds with one stone, don’t you? The market was impressive, fragrant, friendly and bustling. I selected some beautiful bright green Thai basil to use i… Continue

Hi Emily, Lindy here - from the book club. I have prior family commitments for Oct. 11 and will be unable to make it to the book club. I have not heard (as yet) from Melinda(she had volunteered to do the book club but I have never met her and don't know if she will do the Oct. mtg. or not) sooooo. . . you are excellent in the leadership department and you are always at book club so perhaps you would be willing to lead the discussion for Blue Gold????

Thanks loads - Lindy

Hi Emily,
Will you please pass along my thanks to your mom for the article about Jeavons? Very interesting and motivating too. It was good to see you on Saturday! See you at the next one!

Yes, the shovel/boot thing was nice, but the flower is a little bit more my style. Doze looks so innocent in his pic. Too bad I have another pic of him mischievously eying your wedding cake in Sedona!

Hmmmm?? Maybe it wasn't oil. However, it was you, of that I'm sure (I think) :-D You had said something to the effect of really prefering to read non-fic. but there was this really good fiction book that you thought we might be interested in reading as a group one of these months.

Have a nice evening-

Hi Emily - At the book club gathering Sat. morning you mentioned a novel based on "after peak oil". I do not remember the title - could you please email it to me? There are a couple of others: "The 5th Sacred Thing" (Starhawk) and "World Made by Hand" (Kunstler - maybe this is the one you mentioned?). The latter might be a good read for the group because no matter what anyone thinks of the book everyne would have a specific opinion based on our own feeling about after peak oil. Just might keep the group more focused on the book itself rather than wandering all over the place.

You also brought up the subject of "flushing". I am in whole-hearted agreement. The very idea that we flush waste using perfectly good drinking water is pure insanity. I finally got my husband interested in building a compost toilet.

Some titles related to this subject:
"The Humanure Handbook" (Jenkins)
"The Toilet Papers" (Van Der Ryn)
"Liquid Gold" (Steinfeld)
"The Composting Toilet System Book" (Porto & Steinfeld)

. . . and for a bit of humor since we discussed corn cobs and old catalogs:
"Emergency Toilet Paper" (Rush - I notice that his last name rhymes with flush:)

My husband thinks I'm obsessed with this subject. I told I am obsessed - obsessed with not flushing waste with good drinking water which we may be running dangerously close to being without.

Hi again!
Thanks for adding me as a friend. You're my first friend here. I feel like such a loner-lol! Dozer sounds just precious. I hope his allergies are better now. I know sometimes the white dogs tend to have more sensitive skin. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Emily! It was a pleasure meeting you too. :-)
I just took a look at your website. Very cool!! Is Dozer a pit bull? I have one (Knight) and a mixed breed too (Violet).
Stay cool! (yeah, right!)
