I am 45, started my career in Landscaping and then moved into Journalism and then when my two kids arrived I moved into sales for more flexibility.
I have always loved gardening and my husband has always said I need a "hobby" so I am going to take him up on it. I started about two years ago growing some things. Some worked some didn't. Since I was raised in Michigan I need more education on how to do it out here. Now's the time.

There are sooo many children's books about gardening, environment, etc, but none that I've found that are specifically about permaculture. I love Bill Peet as an author. He used to work with Walt Disney and has written many children's books with beautiful illustrations that emphasize respect for the environment. Many have a similar tone to Dr. Seuss's Lorax. What kind of project are you thinking of starting out with? By the way, my Jacob is 10 and I have a Mikal who is 9. Plus three sisters, and we are all active with Roots & Shoots too.
Hi Sallylyn,
I am in Scottsdale, too, with 5 kids, just trying to grow a few things on the back porch of our apartment. My son Jacob started a Permaculture for Kids group on this site if they might be interested. Nice to "meet" you!
