November 16th and 17th. Info on the Mesquite/Carob Milling on the Events tab, or this web address:http://www.phoenixpermaculture.org/page/mesquite-and-carob-milling
Saturday November 16th - NE corner of Central Ave & Indian School Rd
Sunday November 17th - Location TBD Bring your carob and mesquite pods for milling.
Milling Fee - $10 for each 5 gallon bucket of raw/unmilled beans. $10 minimum charge per order. Cash, Check, or Credit/Debit accepted.
What to Expect on Milling Day
Pods will be milled on a first come, first served basis. Please be prepared for a possible wait.
When you bring the beans for milling:
All beans milled are for personal use.
A snap test will be performed. The bean needs to snap in half with a crack rather than bend. Any beans that bend cannot be milled as they jam the mill which slows everything down.
To mill large quantities of pods (15+ gallons), please click here to contact our Events Coordinator. Carob beans are milled at the end of the day.
Please bring at least one 5 gallon bucket as it will grind down to about 1 gallon of flour (approx. 2 lbs).
There is a small $10 fee per 5 gallon bucket to help cover the cost of this service. Continued support of this event is appreciated!
Milling Yield and other specifics
A 5 gallon bucket of beans = 1 gallon flour 1 = about 2 lbs. In the store one pound of mesquite flour sells for $7 to $15. The $10 charge per 5 gallon bucket goes to pay for the mill, operators and transport from Tucson. Flour should be frozen to preserve freshness until use. Carob milling is available at the end of each day.
