Join us in creating a more sustainable Phoenix!
I finally finished building the planters. Today, I was able to plant everything in except for the tomato plant. I am still deciding whether to plant the tomato seedlings from the orange/yellow tomato that has seeds sprouted inside or the tomato seeds that I have collected from farmers market bought cherry tomato.
Here's the wicking columns packed down with planting mix.
I dug out my asparagus plants and transplanted them here. This particular one has developed serious root system after I bought them as seedlings in July.
Planting the everbearing strawberries now.
Both planters planted, the one in the back also has the lemon basil and common sage seeds planted. I am saving the space on the right of the front planter for tomato when I have a seeding ready and when it gets warmer.
Straw mulch covering the soil to keep the strawberry plant clean.
Asparagus peaking through the straw mulch.

Comment by Jacq Davis on February 3, 2013 at 2:59pm Hi Mary, it has been doing great! I will post photos soon, everything seems to be growing well. The rain we got filled both planters up full of rain water, so I have not been needing to water them at all. Asparagus were shooting out lots of ferns, the carrots are sprouting, and the lettuces are getting bigger. The strawberries are still overcoming transplant shock I think. But overall, it has been great.
