Valley Permaculture Alliance

Greetings,
We just moved to Phoenix last year and I have been desperately looking for a food coop in the area to no avail. I've learned that there was a coop in Tempe many years ago, but it went under after it was moved to a new location.

Does anybody know why there is not a natural food coop in Phoenix? Is someone pursuing the idea of establishing a new coop or reviving the old one? Is there even any interest in having a reliable coop, where consumers can buy local products? The local farmers markets are definitely wonderful, but there are huge advantages to having a food coop as well. I would really appreciate your feedback.

Just checked out Azure Standard. Looks really interesting. Thanks for the info.

Have you tried ordering from Azure Standard? Granted, they are not a storefront, but usually there is a group located in your area where you can pick up your items once a month (after helping to unload the truck).

Bountiful Baskets Coop looks interesting, but I guess I am looking for a coop with a storefront , where one could have more choices. I have to be very careful what I buy, because my kids may not like certain products. We are also meal planners and have very little extra storage/frig room for elective and surprise shopping.

I used Bountiful Baskets once, but for the conventionally produce. Organic is not available at the location nearest to me. The whole process was pretty easy, and the product was decent.

I'm just too much of a meal planner to be surprised by the ingredients I'll have.

check out bountiful baskets coop- they have locations that are all organic...I don't have first hand experience with them yet (I plan on ordering a basket for October as I'll be out of town in sept.) but my coworker has tried it and has great things to say...I've lived here for years and this is the first I've heard of- but most of the time I'm living under a rock ;)
