I throw out some wild bird seed, about a cup a day from a cheap 20 lb bag I bought at Tempe Tack & Feed. Seems to keep them distracted from eating the chicken feed in the coop. If I forget...they let me know...

I love the pictures of your chicken run and coop! We have a bamboo chicken coop that my husband and son built that still needs some tweaking, but we're pretty happy with the results. We like the passive-solar location of our coop which is located under the southeast canopy of an old fig tree. It is totally shady in the summertime and sunny in the wintertime. I have no concerns whatsoever about our chickens overheating in July ... it's cool!
