"Ya diatomaceous earth is a powder that the ants are not very fond of. You can get it at Lowes. I have used it with great results."

"Interesting.. I like the blocks and spout ideas. I initially started out with Rubbermaid containers like yours minus the spout for compost tea and blocks for air circulation. I now keep mine in a 3 Tower Worm Factory that has the Compost Tea spout…"

Current and Future Worm Composters

I have kept red wiggler composting worms for some time now and was wondering what others are using to keep them in. I tried one of the commercial worm bins for a while and did not like how it was working. I ended up building my own out of "Rubbermaid Containers".What containers do you like? What sort of scraps do you feed your worms? How do you separate the castings from the worms and new material? How often do you gather castings?Do you add grit or sand? What other critters do you get in your worm…See More

The Tree Farm

In 2009 I started a tree farm on the outskirts of Casa Grande. Someday I might build a house out there but who knows. For now I am making use of the land by planting fruit and nut trees.

Profile Information

About Me:
I have lived in Az most of my life. I am passionate about many things and one of them happens to be gardening and sustainability. I strive for a healthier lifestyle and part of that includes eating a large amount of fresh local grown produce and working out most days. I enjoy running for the freedom and challenge of it. I also have more hobbies than I can keep up with most of the time. I have been accused of being a renaissance man more than once. I have a talent for problem solving, building, and slashing red tape. I put solar panels on the house in early 2012, I drive an electric car, I compost everything organic, and thirst for knowledge about how I can do more. I won't pass up an opportunity to help a neighbor so If you have questions about anything that I have done or are doing feel free to ask.
