pigeon waste, please help!

Hi, I've heard different opinions about pigeon waste. Some say they are toxic and harmful, others say that it's as harmful as cat litter. I read somewhere that the waste make great fertilizer...I need to know. I have a colony of pigeons that made my roof a home since we installed or solar system. Do I need to get ride of them or not?
