A huge thanks to Greg Peterson and the Phoenix Permaculture Guild for their donation of fruit trees to the Asbury UMC community garden. With other donations as well, we were able to plant the trees Friday. We had more than 40 volunteers present! It…

Hi there! I am with the PPG board of directors and we are trying to coordinate a citrus gleaning day. We'd like to find a central Phoenix area (perhaps Arcadia?) where we can get a bunch of volunteers and houses to glean. If you are interested, plea…

Please post photos, we have some native squash that are starting to die off but they look like they are going through their normal lifetime cycle. We actually have squash this year as big as pumpkins! Last year we had vines all over, blooms galore,…

You can find out if you have a vine borer by taking a knife and making a slit in the vine where it comes out of the soil. The worm is usually in there having a good old time. I didn't think there were borers here in Phoenix. I had them in my zucchin…

My pumpkins, which were flourishing with vines running 10 feet long, have suddenly all turned brown and are dying. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on? I am so sad! I planted these 2 months ago and was so pleased to see dozens of blooms.

Asbury Community Garden -- Volunteers and Help Needed

Friends,
Asbury Community Garden is located at 1601 W. Indian School Rd. We have about an acre we are slowly trying to transform from Bermuda grass to vegetable plots. The plots are being distributed to local newly arrived refugee families. These families are currently growing okra, melons and squash. We have also planted 25 fruit trees.
Our vision for the future is to not only plant 50-100 more trees on the property, but also to provide a sense of community in this space. We'd love to have thos… Continue

Hi Kelli, I signed up for the volunteer orientation, but had a tragic death in the family this morning, and will not be able to attend tonight. I would love to volunteer this fall, so please let me know if there's anything I can do prior to the next volunteer orientation.
Thank you!

Hello Kelli,
I saw the opportunity for Volunteer Orientation after it had passed (REI August 3rd). I am wondering if there is any way that I can volunteer this year and if so, what do I need to do to get started? I've been gardening organically for 15 years, currently teach Botany, Propagation and Xeriscape classes. I would love to learn more and meet more individuals in the valley that are also interested in growing.
Thank you,
Brandi Eide
