I have been with Whole Earth CSA since the beginning of this year. The farmer is Shyryn Joy and I chose this CSA after much research because of her holistic and sustainable growing practices. It has been a great experience and a very healthy improve…

I would love that! I have one person picking up a truckload in the morning, but there is plenty. Please tell me when you can come. The problem is shoveling it up. We have a double gate with easy access, but I'm sure my husband will either be working…

I am where the 101 and 51 meet. I had a VERY LARGE tree trimming truck drop it off over a year ago and it was way bigger than I anticipated. Because it has been so long it has composted down to 1/3 of what it was. I have over the year added yard and…

I don't live near roof rats, but along the canal there are plenty of coyotes, but I do have a block wall around my yard. My husband was concerned about snakes coming for the eggs, but so far no issues. I have dogs that scare away bunnies and other g…

My first harvest!!!

I had planted yellow squash before anything else, well a few other things at the same time that the sun fried and I had to replant again and again. I ate squash with my dinner last week that I grew from my garden. I also have very small romaine lettuce that I ate on my burger last night. It was great! It makes me really excited about gardening. I didn't buy very much organic from the store because we have a family of five and not enough money to buy all organic. I always wanted to so now I look… Continue

patience.........

I am really learning the meaning. five minutes a day of planting seeds and watering does give you the true meaning of the patient gardener.

At times I feel as though I have barely accomplished anything. Others I look around and see I have built two 4X8 raised beds two large sunken beds and a chicken coop (almost finished) But all I have to show for it is one yellow squash ready to harvest.

BUT....this afternoon I found a little hope. Kids tend to see the bright side. they have no disappointmen… Continue

Prickly Pear Lemonade

The kids and I had a great time, thank you all. Thank you Anne and Jacob for teaching us.

I took my Tuna's home and got started right away, I knew the frozen ones I couldn't touch till tomorrow. So I thew some in the freezer and called my mother in law to see how she prepares them in Mexico. They rub the fruit on wadded up newspaper and the stickers are supposed to attach to the paper, then they cut and peel them.

Then I checked online and there was three suggestions; cooking, freezing and usi… Continue

I also saw your comment about 2 hens you need a home for. I was thinking of getting a couple more (I have two now), do you still need a home for them?

good to hear that. i don't blame you, i'd be avoiding it too. i think with some extra precautionary measures in the future, you can avoid this. i've read even dirt can harbor it ( as well as many other things) for now get LOTS of rest and just heal.

Would you be interested in baby-sitting our chickens in July? It really would be comforting to have someone who knew something about chickens do it. BTW, they seem to be doing pretty well in the heat, much to my surprise.

Do you need shade cloth for your gardens and chickens. Let me know, I'm doing some on the side work and trying to provide budget shade for everyone on the Guild site.

Message from Jo via Nichol~ "I'm not a techno geek like Niki, so I am asking her to convey how much I enjoyed meeting you today. I always love the opportunity to discuss learning and gardening projects, especially when it will be utilized by children. I look forward to future opportunities to meet and chat with you about gardening with elementary children, as well as hear about how wonderfully succesful your project is." ~
