Saying no to roundup and bye to bermuda

I'm thinking that since our water is so alkeline that a little vinegar might be good for a lot of plant applications. Thank you so much for the ratio and encouragement.

Oh my gosh, what beautiful "winter" tomatoes! I have trouble growing tomatoes. They don't set as much fruit as they should and many get black spots on the blossom end. Their water is on a timer so ge…

Hi Jill, Landscaping is my passion, but not my profession. I have been told I should go to school and get certified because I have such good ideas. Have you thought about perhaps doing the design work yourself with a little help with ideas? I am in…

Weed cloth or weed barrier is really only useful in our area to keep bermuda from growing up from under smaller garden beds. It requires removing all the dirt from your bed, preferrably putting some kind of hard barrier along the sides (we have used…

Hi Neal, I'm finally back to the Permaculture Guild web site after a busy December and trying to get caught up on all the interesting reading. I can relate to your frustration as I came from Northern Calif. 19 years ago and went from fertile river b…

If you are only going to be in AZ for 3-4 more months then you really don't need to worry about the Bermuda. Just make sure you feed your tomatoes and water to make up for what the grass drinks. This way, when you leave, you can rake the garden smoo…

Let's put it this way, once the grass started taking over I stopped doing my part. They got watered and I stole berries off the plants but didn't fertilize like I should. I also planted in the spring which is wrong for our area. I did get a few nice…

Thank you for the link Ericka. I did take a look at the video and believe my Redflame grapes need to be cane pruned. I kinda had in mind last year how I would approach pruning this winter but sometimes best laid plans don't always work out. I love pruning almost anything so I have confidence I won't mess up too bad. Ha ha ha ha. I do know I must feed it when it starts sending out shoots. It must have grown to 8 to 10 times it's size this year plus the bumper crop of grapes so will need the aditional feeding.

I hear that sometimes the second year (if you get fruit the first year) will not be as robust. There is a video that talks about the different pruning for specific grapes. Here is the link. We have 3 grapes first year in and did not get any fruit, and now have to prune as well. We need to look over our notes to see which ones are canes and which are spurs. The videos on fruit tree pruning are great too.
