closed but still no keys

We closed on our house on Nov 24, 2008. All papers signed or initialed and of course closing costs paid with a cashiers check, but of course funds were delayed due to Thanksgiving which is ok because it is my most favoritest holiday of the year. Now we are on Dec 4, 2008 and found out title company is missing quit claim deed from husband of executrix (sounds sexy no?) for the estate and he is a truck driver (like my DH) and who knows when he will be back in town, because, of course they wont acc… Continue

Coming out of limbo

We found a house. We close on the 24th of November and will begin the transformation of a poor unloved house with a dirt lot for a yard. I cannot wait to plant my 2 lemon trees and my sweet bay. I learned alot in Heather's vegeable gardening class and I'm excited about applying the principles I learned. I should probably be planning how I'm going to remove the grossest carpet I have ever seen in my entire 46-year-old life, but I cant help thinking about the yard and garden. My roomate (mom) will… Continue

I am in LImbo

I have rented my little house and moved in with my mom. I now have 4 roomates ranging in ages from my 73-year-old mother to my 11 and 10-year old sons and last but not least, my soon-to-be 3-year old baby boy. Luckily for me she has a small yard so I brought over my container garden and have managed to save what my baby has tried to "harvest". My poor old dog is in a run and escapes only for his daily walk around the "hood" with me and the baby. I will be taking the chicken class soon and hopefu… Continue

Hi, Denise, the 2 Buff Orpingtons I have are only about 4-5 weeks old and they are like night and day. So far one is very curious and adventurous, she will come running to take a treat from us, but the other seems oblivious even when it's right in front of her face :).
I chose them because what I read about the breed was that they are: very adaptable to confinement; docile; affectionate, easily handled.
I used Henderson's chicken breed chart for reference.

hi denise,
i'm no expert on the bee blocks (mine is still empty, i think i may have put it out too late in the season) but i can share with you the information that i have.
this was my first attempt so i'm hoping to have some bees by next year this time. i keep trying to tell them i made a house for them, but they aren't seeming to understand, lol.
the holes are supposed to be 5/16 holes drilled 4 to 10 inches deep with clean edges on untreated wood. i've read that they lay the males closer to the end and they like the holes deeper so they can house more of the larvae (not sure if this is the correct term for bees)
i do believe i've seen a class for building the bee blocks in the past by don titmus. hopefully there will be another one soon.
