Bananas grow here. I have a couple trees in my yard, but I don't know how they're going to do. The guy who gave them to me has all kinds of tropical friut growing in his yard. It's amazing! A great deal of it is in a greenhouse, but he has lots of b…

Thanks! Full sun will make it easier, since I have plenty of it in the summer. That link is great!

Everyone I have ever seen had been planted to get full afternoon sun. One had a trellis for the patio covering and grapes were all over that vine

I tried to post this a while ago and it disappeared into cyberspace, so I apologize if it ends up here twice.   I'm trying to find out where to plant my Thompson Seedless grapes, and I'm finding conflicting information. Some places say full sun, som…

LOL Rachel!!!! I have problems with cats using my garden and soil areas for a litter box. If I am not watching my dog like a hawk he can sniff out those tasty morsels and have them gobbled down before I can catch him. I used to be horrified. Now I j…

Thanks for the reassurance! There's not a ton of trash. I haven't found paint cans or anything. You know, as of right now, the cats are leaving it alone. But it's a very small, thickly planted area. Soon, though, I will have a bigger garden out fro…

If there isn't large amounts of it (like a giant mound of trash with a thin covering of dirt) I wouldn't worry about it. There's always strange things coming up from the dirt. I find a lot very small carpet pieces (avocado shag, it's lovely), old gl…

I love gardening and being outdoors so that alone will be fun for me. I've done the PDC and Desert Landscaper school, and helped others with projects here and there. Do you mind if I take before/after photos? I would like to start a portfolio of work experience.

If you need more hands-on assistance with your yard I am happy to offer my help. I've done the schooling, but now I need the experience, so we'd be helping each other.

Hi Alice:

You might want to consider coming to this class on lasagna gardening http://azhomegrownsolutions.ning.com/events/event/show?id=2641034%3AEvent%3A2522

I would hesitate to use grass clippings (because of the likelihood that you'll get bermuda growback) and steer manure depending on if it's aged or not (salts, weed seeds, "hotness").

Actually there is a local company that sells them for 18.98. They are 25' with a 9" diameter. I am thinking of getting them for my school garden project. It is going to take a couple of years to turn our dirt into soil and this allows the instant gr…

Ken Singh donates huge piles of compost for the Mesa Community College Rose Garden every spring and they sell it in approx. 40lb bags for $4 and will be doing so for the next couple of Saturdays until all the pruning and mulching is done. Handy for…

Ready made raised beds, looks pretty cool but pricey. Don't know if there is a local source for them and how much just the wattles cost. They're recycling rice straw from Ca. for them now instead of burning the straw after harvest which is a good th…

So my spring garden is mostly planted and ready to go.  But I'm still struggling with the view of my next door neighbors various trailers parked in their double driveway.  When I first moved in a couple years ago, I had planned on planting a line of…
