got the proper roof on the coop! I also have shade cloth to add to the front part of the roof come summertime- and I'll drape the shade cloth down the west face (the right side in this pic) it's coming along!

Dana- having the girls in the compost area makes the dogs even MORE jealous! LOL it's fun to watch all the animals interact...

Very nice. I hope I get one put in some day. Are you using letting the girls help with the compost?
Kristin Comment by Kristin on December 18, 2009 at 10:25am
yes- you are right! I've had problems with my dogs getting into the compost heap so I really need to secure it- because I'm sure that the girls would love it if I cleaned out the poo!

I see a whole bunch of wonderful chicken poop that is perfect for your compost bin. Every morning I run out and scoop it out before mine have a chance to scatter it! I don't know which I appreciate more, the eggs or the poop!! Great looking coop, and I think I'll add the hardware cloth as well. I have bird aviaries and have had to use it to prevent escapees, now I need it to prevent intruders!

Erika- I second Chris- and go for the hardware cloth- it is very much worth the extra $$- I used it on my quail coop (in my other pictures you can see the quail coop) Nothing can get in the quail coop-wish I had used it on the chicken coop as well, but my chickens don't usually allow "visitors" LOL

Michelle I hope Santa comes through for you! :)

Erika,If you use 1/2 inch variety or use bird netting you should be okay. If you want really durable, like for the next 50 years, 1/4 inch hardware cloth works wonderful.
Problem comes from 1 inch chicken wire, the small birds just use it as a perch to watch the feeder.

I need something to keep the small birds out of my coop. Is the chicken wire small enough?
