Raised Paths and lowered Bed is the Appropriate Garden Bed in the Desert. Key-hole design. But then How many folks know about Permaculture even though this is a Permaculture site?
Our new house was occupied by people who dumped and polluted the soil. ( we found this out after we bought the house) I can't think of any other solution except for raised beds. I am open to any ideas in order to have a raised path/ lowered bed garden. :)
I do have some knowledge about permaculture but don't know everything.
Your Soil can be "Cleaned" by Bio-remediation. The Activated Compost Tea fomula is available in my "Local Strategies" page on my website www.4dirs.com/fdpc. Look for the Bermuda grass removal strategy. In that pdf you will see the formula ...or come to my class April 7th and I'll explain it fully. my cell is 480-241-5882
Not very sure. The neighbors say the renters had many people living here and were never really sure how many, just a lot. The place had trash piled up and the backyard had many cars temporarily or permanently parked in some sort of state of disrepair. I can't say.
I would like to get my soil tested so I know where to begin. In the meantime, I have a small raised bed while I work on the rest.

The big problem back east was lead in the soil. For Urban Gardeners, Lead Is a Concern
Don, are you implying that there is no place for a raised bed garden in the permaculture toolkit? That seems almost dogmatic to me. There are many circumstances where a raised bed may be the right solution for someone to grow their own food as a part of their sustainable lifestyle.
