Hello everyone. I have a quick question. Does anyone know of a current local trading website or group? If you do please share a link. I would like a place I could list items I have to offer along with a list of things I would like, but I would like it to be local orientated.

This came about during a discussion with my hubby. Money is tight and many people are suffering, and how trading or swapping might help people more than they think it could. We were discussing how every barter site we seem to find, while useful to those who participate surely, lean more towards services and not actual tangibles which people need/want. What we are looking for is a place, website or group where. . well you can trade. Strait across, no LETs or other point/cash system, no services, just things. The idea is more like a garage sale or flea market, but with trading. For instance, I have a new in box 7 quart crock pot that I will never use that I would love to trade for a food dehydrator or an old hand crank meat grinder. Even a used one, as long as it works.

I do have a slight trade set up going on my street. We keep chickens and rabbits, the family gets sick of eggs and rabbit meat so I trade eggs to two ladies on my street for their garden/yard waste, which I feed to the rabbits and chicken which allows me to save a bit of feed costs, which in turn allows me to afford pork when its on sale at least once a month. A win for everyone in my opinion. Their yard waste is worthless to them and the eggs are surplus and therefore worthless to me, but trading my worthless/unusable for their worthless/unusable means a lot to my family.

I am hoping this summer (if all goes well like last summer) I will have surplus squash and other garden items I can trade strait across for other things as well. Last year I was able to save on dog food (we treated ourselves to ice cream and the movies with that savings ^.^), got to use a weed whacker for a day, and traded pound for pound my veggies for fruit.

I know we have a trade part here on the forums, but I wasn't sure if direct trading was/is allowed. Thank you for any info/ideas and links. I would love to see an idea like this either in action, or start up and thrive.

You may feel free to use the Bazaar section of this website for this purpose.  The "Community Bazaar : stuff and services for barter, trade, sale, or FREE" is intended to serve exactly the purpose you describe.  We of course use Craig's list for a lot of the large items we have needed (like swamp coolers, AC units, appliances, etc), but CL generally uses money instead of straight up bartering as it can be difficult to find someone who for instance has a spare meat grinder but needs a crock pot (not impossible, but not quite as simple as a cash transaction).  Good luck with your swapping!

Thank you so much! I wasn't sure if it was allowed here. It is marvelous to hear we can do this kind of thing. Thank you again.

See this post, too for a place to borrow/lend your things.
