I don't know if I did something wrong. I doubt it but my mulberry stick is dead. I took the pruners today and chopped off a piece of the stick four inches from the top and that thing is completely dead. I called Baker's to complain. I know they don't refund but I was told they had a lot of problems with their bare roots this year. Anyone know where I can get a mulberry tree? I still really want one but if I can't get one ASAP I'm replacing it with an olive tree because I know where I can buy one.

That would explain the old, "Here we go round the mulberry bush..." song. I guess without the heat, they may be more like bushes.

Thanks! Now to convince my husband we have time to go all the way into AJ.

We got ours from the Rare Fruit Growers (info@azrfg.org) in January. It's still in the pot, even though it had a great root system when we got it, but we just haven't picked a spot for it yet. It's got nice big leaves and branches coming off it. In January it was just a 3/4" diameter stick  about 18" tall with great roots. Sorry -- it's too dark outside to take a picture right now. It's a Pakistan Mulberry and was either $20 or $25. They gave us a nice information sheet with the tree, too.

Oh, sorry to go off on a tangent, but you mentioned an olive tree source. Do you know if they have any Castelvetrano olive trees?  :)

The VPA put in an order for the 2012/2013 Annual Fruit Tree Event to get olives in for the first time ever.  The varieties will be Mission, Frantioi and Manzanillo.  I was very excited to learn that Dave Wilson has been shipping olives to other nurseries here in AZ and thought they would be a great addition to our event.

The Mulberry I got from the RFG via the VPA event is doing great although it is also still in the pot as I'm still deciding exactly where I want it as well.  Large leaves and huge fruits forming... wow.

I can't believe it -- ours has fruit started all over it, too! I had been so happy about all the giant leaves that I hadn't even noticed the fruit popping out! So exciting!

I looked.  Haven't found any.  But I'd focus in Oregon/Washington where they are grown.  I love those Castelvetrano olives!

They had three types, mission, and Manzanilla. I can't remember the third but I'm pretty sure it was not Castelvetrano.

Tropica Mango is probably the only source left in the Valley.  I'd give Alex a call and find out which of his two locations still has mulberries.

I think I also saw on their Twitter feed that the Phoenix location is now closed :c (

Grrlscout I just checked - I thought I saw something also.  I am relatively near the AJ location - I was thinking about checking on a mango tree there, I can see if they have the mulberries for anyone interested.  May try to get out there today.

Hi Erica -

Sorry to hear about your mulberry.  :(

We (AZRFG) just had our spring plant sale, and had some Pakistan Mulberries propagated by one of our members. I believe he still has some left and would be happy to check for you? I can definitely attest that his trees produce excellent fruit -- he brought big bowls to a meeting last year from his harvest. YUM! He also grows some white mulberries that, surprisingly, were even sweeter!
