Hello Permies- I bought a foreclosure and the previous owners had poured concrete over at least 1/3 of my back yard- and now I am taking it out- slowly but surely! I'd like to put the word out that anyone wanting some is welcome to all I've got! Currently I have a pile that would fill the back of a full size pickup, but I've only just begun to bust this stuff out! If I run out now, I will have more busted up and ready to move over the next few months.

In the interest of keeping material from going into the land fills- I'd like to offer up the opportunity for re-use to anyone who wants thus stuff. I can even help load it up!(however I do not have a wheelbarrow...it's on my wish-list...)

I have 2 dogs that I will need to put away, so I'd prefer that people come to collect it when I can put the dogs away...and if possible weekend pickups would be preferred as I work late during the week.

My house is close to the intersection East 101 and North 202- I am in Mesa off of Alma School. Just send me a message or reply and we'll get you some free material to build retaining walls or paths or sidewalks!

Thanks so much!

Great idea, but a ton of work... "urbanite", I didn't know it had a name! I just "moved" a long sidewalk, got a power saw off Craigslist, now am cutting large concrete "pavers" out of the existing sidewalk squares, then lining them with small colored pavers. So I have my own pile of "urbanite" for disposal... if anywone wants this it is broken into smallish chunks about 6in cubed or so, I am at 40th and Pecos (Lakewood) in Ahwatukee...

If anywone needs concrete cutting services let me know, I am getting pretty good at it. Maybe you have something I need and we could trade my service for ... chickens? best, Joe 480-544-2704

No point in busting 'em up with a sledge hammer. Urbanite is a blight. Pavers are the gig going on!

Right on Anita!

Hey Kristin
I may take some. I'm trying to make a path in my back yard. I've already used some cast -off cement for part of it, but would like to extend it. The hubby is gone this weekend and he has the truck, but I will talk to him when he gets home about possibly next weekend??
Great Idea about not taking it to the landfill :-)
Thanks!
Michelle

Wow Joe that is great information! I think that Greg from the Urban Farm coined the term "urbanite"...I just need the stuff gone and I don't have a saw so I've had some success at getting pieces as large as 1' x 1'-6" with my handy sledgehammer and then I can remove it myself and build some muscle at the same time :)

Anita I'd love to do pavers- but I'm not sure if the stuff I'm busting up is paver-type quality...the previous owners of the house just poured quick-crete over rocks from what I can tell-

Michelle feel free to come by and see if this is what you're looking for. It sounds like Joe has some pretty linear stuff if you're looking for a more formal look, as my stuff is randomly shaped.

I still have an area that is about 12'-0" bt 15'-0" that I haven't even started busting up yet...so much to do and so little time!

I'm going to post some pictures of my 'handi-work' when I get home tonite, the project is coming along nicely and even my otherwise distracted 11 year old son was laying pavers for me yesterday... pretty cool bonding experience. I think the whole thing turned out well but it has taken me a month of weekends, and the pile of urbanite (from cut-off pieces) could fill a pickup truck (and crush its suspension).

I ended up using just one concrete blade on this project ($75), and recycled (estimated) 3 tons of concrete slab. Oh, there is the issue of my sore back but hopefully that will fade with age...

All good remedies, as the satisfaction of seeing the end results! :) May not make it actually feel better but does makes it easy to endure when you see what was accomplished.

Hi all- I would like to order some Cornish X next week, but would prefer to have my mother in law raise them in Prescott rather than in Phx.  Anyone know how Cornish X will do in cooler weather up in Prescott?    Jay

So I cooked the first of the rabbits we processed last week. Fried it like chicken. What went wrong is I have never fried chicken and I cooked it too long resulting in rubber rabbit so I popped it into the crockpot for three hours and it was divine…
