Comprehensive Water Harvesting Certification Training Expands to Phoenix in Spring 2010

To facilitate green job training in Arizona, Watershed Management Group (WMG) a non-profit Tucson based organization is expanding it Water Harvesting Certification Program to the Phoenix area in partnership with Phoenix based non-profit Arizona Home Grown Solutions (AzHS). The WMG program is the only one of its kind in the nation, providing 60 plus hours of hands-on training in design and installation of water harvesting earthworks, cisterns, greywater systems and sustainable landscaping. Upcoming certification program begins in March. For more information, and registration go to www.watershedmg.org or http://azhomegrownsolutions.ning.com/.

This looks like a great course. I know The American Rain Catchment Systems Association ( www.arcsa.org) has certification courses, but they focus mainly on active RWH systems, and tend to also focus too much (IMO) on potable systems. Unfortunately, this looks a bit too time-consuming (spread out) and expensive. It would be great if you could pick and choose the weekends that have the subject matter that is most relevant or interesting to each person; or if they could just make a 4-day seminar with 15-hour days. However, it is certainly something I would have considered if I had a little more time to think about it - deadline for registration is Feb 5th.
For those with the time and money, though, a very interesting and educational course. Probably a lot of fun, too.
I should add, too, that although it's expensive; at over 60 hours, the price seems reasonable.

Not ONLY for those simply interested in the subject, this is also a course that can give landscapers, designers and construction professionals a skill set that, I feel, will only become more and more in demand as water becomes more scarce (or rather the population increases demand)!
I became certified in this course down in Tucson this past summer and really feel confident now in many aspects of not only water harvesting, but resource use in the Desert in general. Great instructors and Super Hands-On!

David,
I applied for this (just in the nick-of-time, for their original deadline) - it looks like it will be fantastic!

It is a bit hard for me to believe a dishwasher uses less resources than hand washing, but alas, it's true. I've had a dishwasher in my homes the last 20 years and have almost never used one. Mainly it's just more work for just 2 people. Bending dow…

Thank you for pointing that out. I didn't mean to give anyone the impression that I don't use a dishwasher or microwave to save energy--they just don't fit in well with my family's eating habits. I only mentioned it because a lot of people think I'm…

My dishwasher uses just over 3 gallons of water to clean an entire load. I don't think I could do better than that by hand washing. :)
