Join us in creating a more sustainable Phoenix!

Well I've been beezy at the Bee Oasis, got out my "Wellies" and wet gear to empty out barrels and buckets out.  a) my row of buckets under my [back of house] eve dripline, and b) I built a pond.

My tempory pond in my Fall Garden area [8 x 10]. I laid a heavy duty tarp into the area with 2x8 around the sides and tied down the edges = instant pond. Now I pipe water redirected from the Horizontal barrel at the NE corner of my house flowing directly into my new "Pond".

From there I have to bail out the water into my wheelbarrow [crazy I know] wheel it over to my trees and dump it into that deep mulch which just "Sucks" it up. Cant do water harvesting without Mulch!

Meanwhile out front Im using one of my [for sale] 100 gallon galvanized tanks raised on one layer of conc. blocks. so my "Nest of barrels" at the SE corner of my house is a 55 g on 2 layers of block, 100 g on one layer of block and another 55 g on the ground for a total of 200 gallons stored. And i have emptied them several times after each rain event.

Next I added more [micro] swales (Basin N' Berm's) in front and back to Slow and sink the water.

The French drain has performed magnificently, no flooding onto my patio. I've had 1/4", 1 1/4', 1 1/4, and 1/3/4' so for this storm.

The other aspect of this storm is the opportuntiy to evauate the water sector.

Where does it pond up, where does it flow off?

Where can i gutter and redirect?

When am "I" doing too much, and where can I do less and my Brain do More! [even though I Love Playing with Water]

Nice instant pond! lotta work, but I hear ya on not minding the work...for now. French drains rule huh?! Mine has also worked perfectly to stop the flooding and feed the Mesquite.
