Event Description

Learn how to create and actually make an herb container garden for yourself or to give as gifts. This hands-on class will show you and have you planting herbs in a container or pot that you bring. We will supply the soil (properly amended) and 3 herb plants per person.

Herbs are so easy to grow here and have many uses. We’ll cover the use of herbs and preserving herbs in detail. There will even be a sweet treat made from herbs to sample. Come learn how to enhance your success to have an herb garden that will be the envy of the neighborhood and use fresh or dried herbs in cooking and other ways in your home.

Maya will also give a tour of her farm and share how she works a production farm on just over one acre that supplies food to 25 restaurants, a CSA and several farmers markets.

The class fee ($25) includes materials to make your container garden. You will get the amended soil (and learn the secret recipe) and 3 herb plants. You must bring a pot or container. Just be sure you can carry it home when it is filled with herbs and soil!

You must RSVP for this class so we know how much material to have on-hand. Class limit is 25 people.

Class Fee = $25 to attend

I had such a blast! It was great to learn the pointers and to get my fingers in the dirt!!! I happen to have a rather large container (the biggest) but it wasn't an issue I was just told to add more dirt! And to find this little gem of a farm in the city was great - next we'll have to try the breakfast or a brunch at the cafe there. Doreen and Maya were fun, thanks again. I'm sure I'll try another class later in the year for the next season of herbs! (next itme I'll aim for a smaller containe though!!HAHA)

I am so disappointed that I have to cancel. My husband was having back spasms all night and took pain killers. He can't lift the baby so I don't want to leave the kids with him. Thought about bringing the baby in the sling but she will be grabbing everything. So sad. I hope you do this one again soon!

ONE potting container - whatever it is made of is your choice and preference. Remember you will need to CARRY it back to your car. :) The suggested size is at least 12 inches across (diameter) and at least that deep. You are planning for the mature size of the herbs. Having enough space for soil and plant is important as it will help keep the roots cooler with more soil - and it will dry out slower, too!

I would also be interested in what kind of container to buy ...or 3 separate containers. Total newbie here...need a little guidance. Thanks!

Melanie Mullins is also attending, as her mother called to RSVP for her - she's not yet signed up as a PPG member.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a plant container that is big enough (at least a foot across and deep) and eco-friendly?
