Hands-on Herb Potting Class with Doreen & Maya
Class Fee - $25
Class limit 25 people – you must RSVP to attend – no walk ins

Learn how to create and actually make an herb container garden for yourself or to give as gifts for the holiday. This hands-on class will show you and have you planting herbs in a container or pot that you bring. We will supply the soil (properly amended) and 3 herb plants per person.

Herbs are so easy to grow here and have many uses. We’ll cover the use of herbs and preserving herbs in detail. There will even be a sweet treat made from herbs to sample. Come learn how to enhance your success to have an herb garden that will be the envy of the neighborhood and use fresh or dried herbs in cooking and other ways in your home.

Maya will also give a tour of her farm and share how she works a production farm on just over one acre that supplies food to 25 restaurants, a CSA and several farmers markets.

The class fee ($25) includes materials ($10) to make your container garden. You will get the amended soil (and learn the secret recipe) and 3 herb plants. You must bring a pot or container. Just be sure you can carry it home when it is filled with herbs and soil!

You must RSVP for this class so we know how much material to have on-hand. Class limit is 25 people.

Hey everyone - dress warmly toorrow! It was 40 degrees at Maya's this morning at 9 am - BRRRR. We'll have a pot of hot coffee and some yummy lemon-basil butter cookies and rosemary shortbread to go with that coffee! Think hat and gloves, closed-toe shoes and jeans!

See you in the morning - and put out that frost cover tonight!

The class is held at Maya's Farm next to the Morning Glory Cafe. You will notice an area with bales of hay - that is where we will start.

Parking is acorss 32nd street and you walk into the "farm". It is about a 2 block walk which is why you want to make sure you can carry your pot when filled with soil and plants!

Is this event still happening? I couldn't RSVP before now (Dec. 3). I can try to recruit someone to come with me - let me know if you need more people?

Deeper than a pot called a 'bowl' which is too shallow for the roots when it gets hot. If you choose one that is about 15" across it will be deep enough as long as it is not a 'bowl'. Hope this helps.

Stupid question: how deep a pot? Doreen mentioned 15" across.

Hi Lynn - one pot big enugh for three herbs. One that is about 15 inches across at the top would work perfect!
Lynn Comment by Lynn on December 1, 2009 at 12:07pm
Do we just bring 1 pot? Or three for each herb? Very excited about this! :)
